Steel Engraved is the self titled third release from Germany Heavy Metal Power Metal veterans Steel Engraved. It is also the first to feature new drummer Jaroslav Rod and new bassist Katharina Praml. The addition of these new member has given the band a more modern and progressive approach, and with Primal Fear Vocalist Ralf Scheepers overseeing the vocal recording, and contribution guest vocals on “Searching For Regret”, the production value of Steel Engraved is the next step in the evolution of their sound. With guitarists Andy Straehler and Tomas Kuchta, vocalist Marco Schober, and keyboardist Max Linder rounding out the lineup, the band took a team approach to songwriting and arranging.

Steel Engraved is well produced, with excellent performances throughout. Fans of Melodic Power Metal and Progressive Metal well enjoy the soaring vocals and tight guitars. There are Progressive tendencies, without being overly Progressive, with some of the songs having a very evident Queensrÿche influence. Each of the 13 songs is a quality work, with “Rebellion” and “One To One” standing slightly above, because they each breathe a little more than some of the more frantically paced tracks, like “Generation Headless”, which is a fine song, but the double bass drives it relentlessly. Overall, Steel Engrvaed is worth checking out for any Power Metal, Melodic Metal, and Progressive Metal fan.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
