Edge Of Thorns is a German Power/Traditional Metal band that’s been around in excess of a decade and Insomnia is their latest offering. The album leans mostly towards the rough and dirty aspects of Power Metal, similar to the sound and approach of “Fast As A Shark” by their legendary Metal brethren Accept. In fact, vocalist Dirk Schmitt sounds similar to Udo Dirkschneider, however, with a deeper tone, less range, and significantly less melody. By and large the guitar work is solid, but many of the songs sound too similar and fail to differentiate themselves, making for an average release.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
