Astra is Progressive Metal band from Italy (not to be confused with the California-based band by the same name on Metal Blade Records), and their release di giorno is entitled Broken Balance. Other than a slight Italian accent coming through in Andrea Casali’s vocal tone and a slight lack of power behind his voice, Astra performs solidly from beginning to end within Broken Balance. The musicianship is impressive (but never over the top), the “progressive variety” is well-intertwined throughout the album’s 12 tracks, and Astra remembers that a Metal album, regardless of the subgenre, is supposed to ROCK! Highly recommended …

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
