Ænimus is a new band from Sweden, and This Illusion is their debut release. Ænimus plays a blend of Melodic and Power Metal that has an “Aternative” feel as well. Similar to how Faith No More could be considered a milder version of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ænimus is a more subdued form of the curiously popular Volbeat. Overall, there are catchy melodies and solid song rhythms within This Illusion, and all of that is blended into that unique Alternative Melodic Power Metal backdrop. The album is solid overall, although the second half tends to lose a little steam.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
