Shadows Past is a Progressive/Power Metal band from Sweden, founded in 2005 by vocalist Ola Halen.  The band has always viewed themselves as a “live” outfit, and their Perfect Chapter debut certainly is a long-time coming.  Similar to the obscure band name chosen, the songs on Perfect Chapter often come across veiled and opaque.  Drummer Olle Lindroth provides some occasional nice work on the double-bass drums, but Halen’s voice tends to dominate and disrupt many tracks on this release.  Hearing his consistent higher octave tones become like fingernails running down a chalkboard, unfortunately making Shadows Past’s debut everything but “perfect”.
