Finland’s Nightwish has held “gold standard” status in the female-fronted Symphonic Metal subgenre for 2 decades. With Floor Jansen firmly planted in front of the microphone, the time has come to see how she and the band mesh together via the new written material comprising the Endless Forms Most Beautiful release. Overall, the marriage seems to work, but when listening you get the feeling that Jansen was asked to fit the Nightwish mold much more than the band was willing to change to fit her style. In the end, if you’ve been a fan of Nightwish, this album won’t disappoint.
