The New Black is a Danish band with 3 prior albums to their credit. With A Monster’s Life, however, the band self-proclaims they “went for broke” and hired a top-notch producer in Jacob Hansen, known for his work with the internationally acclaimed Volbeat. The band sounds nothing like Volbeat, instead plays more conventional Modern Metal/Hard Rock that can be heard ad nauseum by countless bands in the USA. However, there is something “different” or better about this record that makes it stand out. The song structures are spot on and the sound is outstanding, making for a very memorable listen.

About Dan Skiba 811 Articles
Dan is a former partner at Metal Express Radio, and also served as a reviewer, photographer and interviewer on occasions. Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.

  1. Again a “Hansen-Story”, where the “EVIL- SOON WILL TAKE CONTROL”?
I don’t like this style, nor this album.
It’s not only not “serious enough” – it’s totally not metal!

That’s another topic, with that orks….
