California based band Seventrain first formed in 2012, and by 2014 had released their debut self-titled album with very promising results. The album charted on the CMJ Loud Rock Top 40 at #36 in its first week, and received high praise by critics worldwide. In addition, Seventrain was nominated for Best Hard Rock Album of the Year at the 2014 San Diego Music Awards. In 2022, key Seventrain band members Eric Koonze, Dave Odegaard, Eric Horton, Greg Rupp and Calvin Lakin began working on their third effort to be released in 2023 through Steel Cartel Records. Metal Express Radio’s Bryce Van Patten caught up with Eric Koonze and Eric Horton of Seventrain, one of Southern California’s premiere Heavy Metal bands. The guys talked about early influences, their new album in the works, tribute bands, and a lot more. Seventrain is a new band hailing from San Diego, California, USA, and their debut contains 11 tracks comprising roughly 45 minutes of Blues-based Hard Rock. The band self-produced and funded the recording of Seventrain on 2 inch analog tape, providing a very “natural” feel to their straight-forward sound. The drumming comes through thin in the mix, but the band does a good job of establishing and staying within a “groove” for each track, and vocalist Jon Campos (ex-Dive Bomber) performs solidly throughout this album.
