GALDERIA – Return Of The Cosmic Men

The French seem to have a uniquely flamboyant flair for Power Metal glory. Galderia have made a strong case for this with the epic “Universal Power Metal” triumph known as Return Of The Cosmic Men. This release may suffer from some typical Power Metal clichés, but at its worst, it is only predictable and familiar. At its best, however, it is over-the-top fantastic and breathtaking.

Galderia has done a wonderful job of infusing some of today’s popular Synth Wave elements with traditional Power Metal. The result is a glistening and calculated collection of songs that wouldn’t sound too out of place on a new Battle Beast album. It’s the kind of music that , in the ’80s, everyone thought the future generations would be listening to.

Tracks like “Living Forevermore” and “High Up In The Air” are the kind of sing-along anthems that fans have come to expect from a band of this sort, while “Shiny Unity” and “Legions Of Light” (a highlight of the disc) bring the speedy, fist-pumping, double-bass action that Metalheadz can’t live without.

Return Of The Cosmic Men should fall in line nicely with other top Power Metal releases of this year. Dragon lovers rejoice!
