Exxiles is the brainchild of Mauricio Bustamante out of Mexico, and the first release is entitled Oblivion. Exxiles’ soundscape is rooted in Progressive Metal, and Bustamante ropes in an impressive array of who’s who from the Progressive, Power, and Symphonic Metal subgenres.
(including Zak Stevens – Savatage, Chris Caffery – Trans-siberian Orchestra, and Mike Lepond – Symphony X). Topically, Oblivion is centered around the concepts of “mistrust” and “loyalty”. The music’s fine, but the lyrics tend to be cumbersome and typically lack any semblance of being “catchy” or overly memorable. As such, Progressive fans may enjoy, but others should pass on this one.
Dan is a former partner at Metal Express Radio, and also served as a reviewer, photographer and interviewer on occasions. Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
