By Hook Or By Crook is the second full length album release from Trondheim, Norway’s four piece Heavy Metal Band Shotgun Rodeo.  The band includes vocalist Nino Escopeta, guitarist Don Shrediablo, bassist Grimmo D.B., and drummer Doomfang, and, citing influences as diverse ae Pantera and Avenged Sevenfold, have been hailed as bridging the gap between classic Heavy Metal and the modern age.  The truth is, Shotgun Rodeo have turned in 13 riff heavy Metal tunes that deliver a solid punch, with some politically charged, no hold barred lyrics that lift the middle finger high to the political correctness of the day.  Escopeta’s vocals immediately call to mind Chad Gray, of Mudvayne, and while Shrediablo leaves some to be desired solo wise, the riffage is ferocious and tasty.  The production is raw, and there is a definite punk vibe sonically and lyrically.  Songs like “Blaming The Kremlin”, “The Bandwagon Syndrome”, “Stereotypical”, and “Bastardize The World” speak directly to U.S. and world politics in a right wing fashion, while the classic “YOPB” extols the virtues of marriage.  “YOPB” stands for Yoko Ono Psycho Bitch, and makes the assertion that the Beatles blew greatness by being pussy whipped.  There is even a tribute to iconic Black Sabbath guitarist as track 10, simply titled “Tony Iommi”.
By Hook Or By Crook is a riff laden Heavy Metal contender, and definitely worth checking out.
