What Happens Next is the 16th instrumental studio release from legendary American guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani.  Satriani’s prolific career has spanned 40 years, beginning as a guitar teacher and performer, having taught Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, fellow guitar legend Steve Vai, and numerous other high profile players.  His 1987 release, Surfing With The Alien, produced radio hits, and was the first all instrumental record to chart so highly in many years.  Satriani has contributed to many other artists work as well, including Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, and Crowded House.  He is also the guitarist for supergroup Chickenfoot, featuring Sammy Hagar, Vocals: Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Bass;  and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on drums.

What Happens Next features Smith on drums and bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple).  The record speaks for itself.  Satriani is a legend, and this record is quintessential Satriani.  Its extremely well done, well produced, and, like everything he has done, runs a gamut of styles, from very 70’s Rock to Blues and Funk, to very experimental noise, ala “Catbot”.  Fans of Instrumental Rock, Guitar, and of course, fans of Joe Satriani will enjoy this next phase in his evolution.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
