Big City Life is the second album from Norway’s Big City.  Big City is a super group of sorts, featuring member of Extreme Metal bands Satyricon and Blood Red Throne, and Prog Metal Band Withem, and others.  These musicians come together, lead by Daniel Olaisen, to craft Melodic Heavy Rock/Metal in Big City.  Interestingly, Big City Life is the second record for Big City, but their debut was never released.  So the purchase of Big City Life includes their debut album, Wintersleep as well, and between the two, 20 songs are included.  There is a breadth of material spanning these 2 records, and most of it is very good.  There are definite 80s influences present throughout, and the musicianship is excellent.  As is the production.  There is some acoustic guitar leadwork that isn’t quite up to snuff with the rest of the record, whether it is due to the performance or the production is up to the listener.  It stands out as poorly executed against an otherwise solid record.  Vocally and lyrically good, fans of 80s Rock, Hair Metal, Melodic Rock, and Melodic Metal should give Big City Life a spin.  With 20 to choose from, there is bound to be at least one song you love.
