Demon Rider is the fourth record from Jacksonville FL based Heavy Metal band Artizan. Produced by Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Jag Panzer, Crimson Glory) Demon Rider is a five song (plus 3 live track) EP with a well produced sound.  Vocalist Tom Braden has a wide range, and gravelly timbre that calls to mind Rob Halford of Judas Priest, while the band has an eclectic mix of driving rhythms, metal grooves, and some progressive elements.   The record boasts and impressive list of guest contributors as well, namely guest vocalist Harry “The Tyrant” Conklin (Jag Panzer) on the limited edition, and bassist Joey Vera (Fates Warning, Armored Saint) on all tracks.  Rounding out the lineup are drummer Ty Tammeus, and guitarists Shamus McConney and Bill Staley.

The songs are heavy, and well written for the most part, although at times it seems a bit like the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.  The drum beat isn’t quite suited to the riff, or the timing of one part doesn’t quite jibe with another part.  Perhaps its intentional for effect, but occasionally it just feels off kilter. The vocals at times seem a bit operatic for the music as well, and pieces and parts seem to lack cohesiveness.  The lead guitar is a little underwhelming, particularly on the live tracks.  Overall Demon Rider is a decent effort and worth checking out.

Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
