Metal Express Radio’s Rating Scale

10.0:         Cannot be improved! Perfect, instant classic! Essential in any record collection.
9.5 – 9.9:  Fantastic, spectacular and outstanding!
9.0 – 9.4:  Amazing release! It just lacks that little extra spice to make it perfect.
8.5 – 8.9:  Exceptional release! Will likely rank among top ten albums of the year.
8.0 – 8.4:  Great release! It has many different qualities.
7.5 – 7.9:  Above average! It is an enjoyable release.
7.0 – 7.4:  It is not brilliant, but has many strong points.
6.0 – 6.9:  It has its moments, but is not that strong.
5.0 – 5.9:  Slightly above average, does not stand out. Good outweighs bad by just a little.
4.0 – 4.9:  Just below average, bad outweighs good by just a little.
3.0 – 3.9:  Mediocre. There might be a song or a performance that is enjoyable, but that is it.
2.0 – 2.9:  Very weak! There might be a light at the end of the tunnel, too many flaws.
1.0 – 1.9:  This release gives the word “terrible” new meaning.
0.1 – 0.9:  Awful! Avoid at all cost. There is nothing good to say about this release.

SCORPIONS – Lovedrive [Remastered]

October 5, 2001 Frode Johnsrud 1 Comment
Ah, what a relief! The Scorpions back-catalog finally get a sonic overhauling, and deservedly so. The last couple of years (OK- let’s say the last ten…), Scorpions have been the laughing stock of many a …READ MORE

BRUCE DICKINSON – The Best Of

September 25, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
I can’t think of any artist who has gone solo from a huge band (I am too young to remember that Ozzy did), who has made it through with his head above water. Okay, Halford …READ MORE

SAXON – Killing Ground

To claim “Innocence Is No Excuse” my favorite Saxon album tells you perhaps more about my age than my brain and taste. This melodic masterpiece, which finally saw its release on CD thanks to French …READ MORE

KREATOR – Violent Revolution

September 25, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
German thrash metal has its revival, and it’s lead by Kreator and Destruction. Mille Petrozza and his men have made a classic thrash album that still sounds very much up to date. Violent Revolution marks a …READ MORE

VIRGO – Virgo

September 25, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Virgo is the project that features former Angra vocalist Andre Matos and star producer Sascha Paeth. I don’t think making money is the motive behind this, as it is by no means meant to bring …READ MORE

Boy, does this live CD bring back fond memories! Queensrÿche live, back in 1991, performing their masterpiece, and true classic: Operation Mindcrime. The whole album! Though its been many a moon since I last played …READ MORE

EDGUY – Mandrake

September 24, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Finally, Edguy sounds like a mature band. I have waited three records for this, and though I think the songs on the last on, “Theatre Of Salvation”, were stronger, I can say that the fans …READ MORE

TRIBUTE TO AEROSMITH – Let The Tribute Do The Talking

September 21, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Bob Kulick seems to have a found an easy way of living, making tribute records to all bands that could use one, and more. If I’m right, I think this is the second to Aerosmith, …READ MORE

Just a year after Alice warned us that this indeed is a brutal planet, he’s back with “Dragontown”, an album that has a lot in common with its predecessor. The great Cooper is today quite …READ MORE
