Metal Express Radio’s Rating Scale

10.0:         Cannot be improved! Perfect, instant classic! Essential in any record collection.
9.5 – 9.9:  Fantastic, spectacular and outstanding!
9.0 – 9.4:  Amazing release! It just lacks that little extra spice to make it perfect.
8.5 – 8.9:  Exceptional release! Will likely rank among top ten albums of the year.
8.0 – 8.4:  Great release! It has many different qualities.
7.5 – 7.9:  Above average! It is an enjoyable release.
7.0 – 7.4:  It is not brilliant, but has many strong points.
6.0 – 6.9:  It has its moments, but is not that strong.
5.0 – 5.9:  Slightly above average, does not stand out. Good outweighs bad by just a little.
4.0 – 4.9:  Just below average, bad outweighs good by just a little.
3.0 – 3.9:  Mediocre. There might be a song or a performance that is enjoyable, but that is it.
2.0 – 2.9:  Very weak! There might be a light at the end of the tunnel, too many flaws.
1.0 – 1.9:  This release gives the word “terrible” new meaning.
0.1 – 0.9:  Awful! Avoid at all cost. There is nothing good to say about this release.

JUDAS PRIEST – Demolition

July 16, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Finally, the Priest is back again. Jugulator wasn’t neither the critics favorite, nor the fans. I actually liked that record, and when I hear Demolition I simple adore Jugulator. At least, the latter had decent …READ MORE

THE QUIREBOYS – This Is Rock’n’Roll

July 16, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Look what the cat dragged in! Quireboys return for another go, figuring the time is right for a comeback. Their classic debut forgotten, and all those high profile features (Kerrang, Metal Hammer etc.) long gone, …READ MORE

DARK AVENGER – Tales Of Avalon: The Terror

July 15, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
The expectations were huge, as the last (and first) album was a power metal monster. On “…The terror” I can not find the crunchy riffs, but I see a band that works more with moods …READ MORE

BLACKMORE’S NIGHT – Fires At Midnight

July 10, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
How can you be a hundred percent politically incorrect? Well, you can state, like I do, that Ritchie Blackmore’s work with his talented wife, Candice Night, is the best effort he has ever cut on …READ MORE

KAMELOT – Karma

July 10, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
A lot of bands outdo themselves this year, and Florida’s Kamelot is by no means an exception. The Fourth Legacy, which I easily picked as album of the year for 2000, has been topped by …READ MORE

ARTCH – For The Sake Of Mankind

July 7, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
A few years after the world should have been conquered, Artch’s second CD saw the day. Still with incredible songwriting, the band didn’t sound that hungry anymore. Maybe the disc was a bit overproduced? Well, …READ MORE

ARTCH – Another Return [Reissue]

July 6, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
One of the best debut records ever, this masterpiece was recorded in 1987, then released in Europe by Active and in US by Metal Blade. At the time of its release, people either listened to …READ MORE

NARNIA – Desert Land

July 1, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Narnia from Sweden is back with album number three. “Desert Land” sees a rawer and rougher edge to the band, but the roots of the band are not interfered. Still you can hear obvious Rainbow …READ MORE

ICED EARTH – Horror Show

June 26, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
I can’t say that I’m disappointed, but I can’t say that I’m 100 percent pleased either. 7 points from such a killer band as Iced Earth is perhaps a bit disappointing, but maybe I should …READ MORE

SONATA ARCTICA – Silence

June 21, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Sailing up as the outsiders to throne now that Stratovarius wisely have decided to take a break, Finnish Sonata Arctica releases their second full length CD. What makes these kids stand out are the incredible …READ MORE
