Metal Express Radio’s Rating Scale

10.0:         Cannot be improved! Perfect, instant classic! Essential in any record collection.
9.5 – 9.9:  Fantastic, spectacular and outstanding!
9.0 – 9.4:  Amazing release! It just lacks that little extra spice to make it perfect.
8.5 – 8.9:  Exceptional release! Will likely rank among top ten albums of the year.
8.0 – 8.4:  Great release! It has many different qualities.
7.5 – 7.9:  Above average! It is an enjoyable release.
7.0 – 7.4:  It is not brilliant, but has many strong points.
6.0 – 6.9:  It has its moments, but is not that strong.
5.0 – 5.9:  Slightly above average, does not stand out. Good outweighs bad by just a little.
4.0 – 4.9:  Just below average, bad outweighs good by just a little.
3.0 – 3.9:  Mediocre. There might be a song or a performance that is enjoyable, but that is it.
2.0 – 2.9:  Very weak! There might be a light at the end of the tunnel, too many flaws.
1.0 – 1.9:  This release gives the word “terrible” new meaning.
0.1 – 0.9:  Awful! Avoid at all cost. There is nothing good to say about this release.

ICED EARTH – Dark Genesis

In addition to make Nevermore resign their deal, Century Media boxes Iced Earth. Not totally rip off, but honestly, if you have followed the band through all these dark years, the only interesting disc out …READ MORE

ICED EARTH – Tribute To The Gods

November 26, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
I don’t feel like giving points to this release, as it is, like you guessed from the title, simply a tribute to a few bands that have inspired Jon Schaffer and Iced Earth throughout the …READ MORE

AT VANCE – Dragonchaser

November 26, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Well, well, well. A German band that play slightly neo-classical heavy metal wouldn’t make me pay attention, but these guys are very good. At Vance know how to incorporate good and catchy melodies in their …READ MORE

KISS – The Box Set

November 20, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
The reason for me listening to hard rock/ heavy metal,or whatever you want to call it, is because of KISS. Growing up in the 70’s/ 80’s, you either loved the band, or hated it. I …READ MORE

RHAPSODY – Rain Of A Thousand Flames

November 13, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
There’s no reason to take neither this CD nor the number of points given very seriously. This is an EP (actually with a lot more music than many full length CD’s), and the thought behind …READ MORE

SYMPHONY X – Live On The Edge Of Forever

To be a “russ” in my native language means to graduate from high school. Now I don’t know if Russ Allen ever was a russ, but he passes the test for a singer on a …READ MORE

ANGRA – Rebirth

November 13, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
I didn’t notice much buzz about this CD so far. Maybe most people gave up on Angra when master composer Andre Matos grabbed the rhythm section and went on to form Shaman, Virgo and whatever …READ MORE

MIDNIGHT SUN – Metal Machine

I have no idea, but I seriously believe that these Swedes are just out to make fun of metal. Or they’re out to make money… I have never in my entire life seen more cliches …READ MORE

EVERGREY – In Search Of Truth

One of Sweden’s premier metal outfits is back with their third album, In Search Of Truth. Evergrey is one of the few and unique bands that already from album number one found their own sound …READ MORE

SCORPIONS – Love At First Sting [Remastered]

November 6, 2001 Frode Johnsrud Leave a comment
Love at first sting is the biggest album of the Scorpions career. Magazine-cover stars, Rock in Rio appearance, a world tour that rivaled the biggest bands ( in both length and attendance numbers), hit singles …READ MORE
