Captain Black Beard is a Melodic Rock band from Sweden, and Before Plastic is their sophomore release … a follow-up to their critically acclaimed self-titled debut. Like many Melodic Rock bands, musical virtuosity isn’t the focal point of Captain Black Beard; instead the most important aspect of each song is the vocal melody line. Sakaria Bjorklund handles the mic (along with half of the guitar duties), and comes across in text book Melodic Rock fashion, much like a Jack Blades from Night Ranger or Tommy Shaw from Styx. But, if you’re looking for musical substance here, you won’t find it.
