Alternative metal solo project Get Out Alive have recently released a brand-new single entitled “If I Leave”. Chass Huff, the man that put together Get Out Alive spoke with Metal Express Radio about the latest single, the formation of Get Out Alive, challenges of being a solo project, and more. Metal Express Radio: How did the formation of Get Out Alive come about?
Huff: Get Out Alive was born during a period of isolation. Family has always been strong and I’m grateful for that, but my entire circle of friends imploded. In hindsight, it was a good thing. Sometimes it feels like these things are meant to happen. The isolation gave me time to reflect and focus on what exactly I want to do. Get Out Alive was the result.
MER: Get Out Alive recently released a single entitled “If I Leave”, do you feel this song gives the fans an idea of what to expect from your next album?
Huff: Absolutely, “If I Leave” is a fantastic reflection of what’s to come. Lyrically, this song touches on an internal struggle with mental health, alongside most of my music. Sonically, you’ve got the energy, catchiness, and the madness.
MER: You have also released two other songs,”Death Has Been Defeated” and “Hornets Nest”. What kind of feedback have you been able to receive on your new songs?
Huff: The feedback has been beyond expectation so far. This project is a fresh start and the beginning is usually slow, but my team at Artery and I have been able to accomplish milestones starting from the first release. The debut single “Hornet’s Nest” landed on two major Apple Music playlists, I believe “Death Has Been Defeated” landed three. I lost count with “If I Leave”, but the most notable was landing on Spotify’s editorial. I’ve also appreciated making tons of new friends through social platforms. It’s fulfilling to see people enjoying something I put my whole heart into.
MER: What do you see as plans for yourself for the rest of 2026?
Huff: The plan is simple, to continue improving myself everyday. I hope to write more music, hit more milestones, and most importantly, be happy.
MER: What do you see as some of the challenges of being a solo artist?
Huff: The worst part of being a solo artist, as well as the best, is that I have to do mostly everything myself. However, my co-producer and great friend Zack Baker, my managers, and the rest of the team at Artery have filled that space for me. I know I can rely on them when needed. Another challenge has been putting together a live experience. It’s fun to have a group of friends all in the same boat vs. hired guns. I have a great group of guys lined up though, maybe that situation will naturally evolve with time.
MER: If you could put together your ideal touring lineup for Get Out Alive, who would it consist of and why?
Huff: I have the best of the best already. My guys are solid and I enjoy being around them. Shoutout to the dawgs. Aaron Grove, Alec Stephens, and Mike Perry.
MER: Is there anyone you hope to tour with and why?
Huff: I would love to tour with A Day To Remember; they were my favorite band in middle school and high school. I could list a ton of bands and reasons for each, but right now I’m feeling ADTR.
MER: Is there anywhere you hope to play live and why?
Huff: The current bucket list is Rockville, Warped Tour, and House of Blues.
MER: What are your hopes for the future of Get Out Alive?
Huff: I hope that Get Out Alive can help people. I hope the art is enjoyed, I hope it heals hearts, strengthens bonds, makes friendships, makes people fall in love, and I hope I can cherish it forever.
