TEAZE – Rev Your Engines

Rev Your Engines (2026), released through Deko Entertainment, is the fifth studio album by Canadian hard rock band Teaze. Being the follow-up to Body Shots (1980), the album was literally 46 years in the making. Don’t worry, parental advisory is not necessary to listen to the album. Except for a cover of Rainbow’s “Man on the Silver Mountain” and a revamped version of “Sweet Misery,” the album features newly written material. The lineup that plays on the album includes Brian Danter on lead vocals and bass guitar, Mark Bradac on guitars, Chuck Lambrick on guitars and keyboards, and Jim Bonventre on drums. The former two are founding members of the group. Rev Your Engines sounds like a long-lost hair metal album of the mid ‘80s, but the production isn’t as slick. The flaming album cover also gives away the vibe that it’s a hair metal record.

Gotta Rock or Die

The title track is pure adrenaline with its “racing down the highway” vibes. It has a smoking guitar intro, a thick and driving bass line, and excellent vocals from Danter. “Turning the Night Away” is one of the few commercial, radio-friendly bangers that was released at the wrong, yet right time. The melodies are insanely catchy, the backing vocals during the chorus are gorgeous, and the guitar solo is a chef’s kiss. “Let Me Go” is the sleaziest song on the album thanks to the dirty and tasteful guitar riff, malicious groove, and honky tonk piano instrumentation. The song is about letting go of past troubles and unleashing the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll. There’s also a reference to Grand Funk Railroad with the line, “Grand Funk running through my veins,” which was a nice touch.

“We Are One” is a big, commercial, radio friendly, anthemic number with a soaring chorus that’ll be stuck in listeners’ heads for days. It offers optimism for those who still wish to pursue their dreams and find their true happiness in life. Teaze’s cover of Rainbow’s “Man on the Silver Mountain,” which for some strange reason, the band decided to add a “The” to the song title, doesn’t add anything new to the heavy metal banger. However, the instrumentation is really good and the band sounded like they had fun recording the cover. “Can’t Stop Loving You” has an infectious hook, and an insanely catchy chorus. The song would’ve been huge if it was released in 1986. The modernized and power ballad version of “Sweet Misery” closes the album and by the way, the new version is a million times better than the country version from On the Loose (1978) because the new version fits the band’s style more. Plus, the orchestrated instrumentation and harmonic backing vocals are stunning.

Final Assessment

As mentioned earlier, Teaze’s Rev Your Engines sounds like a long-lost hair metal record. But because the production isn’t as glossy or polished as the hair metal albums released in the mid ‘80s, Rev Your Engines sounds modern and fresh with lots of smoking guitar playing! Danter’s raspy vocals perfectly fit the hard rock / heavy metal genre, the keyboards are cleverly sprinkled throughout the album, and the songs are memorable. Not sure if Rainbow’s “Man on the Silver Mountain” was necessary because it’s been done many times, but it’s a fun listen. For those who are interested, give Teaze’s Rev Your Engines a chance!
