Metal Express Radio: Space of Variations released their third album entitled Poisoned Art on February 13th. What can you tell everyone about your latest album?
Kozhuhar: It was written during the darkest and hardest period of our lives. The circumstances were against us and against this album, so the fact that we managed to create and finish it is already a victory.
MER: How was the writing and recording process, being your third album?
Kozhuhar: It was very different from our usual process. We weren’t working in our normal conditions at our home studio. Sometimes we recorded at home, sometimes in studios. The process was quite chaotic because we were in different countries, so it was hard to put everything together.
That period was also extremely difficult emotionally, and creativity didn’t come easily. But in the end, we’re happy with the result and with how we managed to put this puzzle together.
MER: You’ll soon be headlining a tour in Europe. What are your expectations for the upcoming tour?
Kozhuhar: It’s a very exciting moment, exciting and equally nerve-wracking. We’ll be playing the new songs live for the first time, and we’re curious ourselves how they will feel on stage, both for us and for the audience.
We expect to see our entire fanbase and many new faces. After all, this is a tour in support of a new album. A very special moment.
MER: What do you see as plans for yourself and Space of Variations after the European tour?
Kozhuhar: We will film a lot of content, keep promoting the album, keep touring, and keep building our future. We already have a few big festivals confirmed. We hope the band will gain more and more recognition worldwide.
MER: Is there anyone you hope to tour with and why?
Kozhuhar: There are many bands we would love to tour with. But touring with Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Bad Omens, or Underoath would be a dream come true.
MER: Is there anywhere you hope to play live that you haven’t yet?
Kozhuhar: There are so many places. We really want to return to the USA, and we dream of touring South America, Australia, Japan, and Asia in general. We love playing in exotic places with cultures very different from our own. Music is a universal connector that unites cultures.
MER: How would you describe the metal scene in Ukraine?
Kozhuhar: There are many talented bands, and before the war there were big festivals that were actively developing. The industry was alive and growing. When the war started, everything became much harder for obvious reasons. Right now, it’s very difficult for Ukrainian heavy music artists, but they continue to make music and play shows whenever possible, and they deserve huge respect for that.
MER: Out of Space of Variations’ three albums, which one would you recommend to a new fan and why?
Kozhuhar: Oh, that’s hard. It’s like choosing your favorite child. Let them start with the first album and listen all the way to the latest one.
