Literally rising from the ashes of their momentous debut album, Phoenix (2024), all-female Swedish hard rock trio The Gems are preparing for the release of their second studio album, Year of the Snake, which will be released on March 13, 2026, through Napalm Records. Formerly of Thundermother, the band consists of lead vocalist Guernica Mancini, guitarist and bassist Mona “Demona” Lindgren, and drummer Emlee Johansson. The latter two share bass duties for the new album. While Phoenix embodies the pain and betrayal endured in the band’s previous life, Year of the Snake is all about shedding the past and embracing a better tomorrow. To capitalize on the tone shift, the songs are more upbeat and there’s an obvious ’80s influence throughout the album. Given the beast of the current music industry, The Gems have a long way to go, in terms of conquering the world, but they hope to reach new audiences and expand their ever-growing fanbase with Year of the Snake.

Lana Teramae of Metal Express Radio had a chat with Mancini about The Gems’ upcoming studio album, Year of the Snake. They also talked about the importance of album artwork, why the band decided not to hire a full-time bass player, what bands Mancini is currently listening to, and more!

Lana is a reviewer at Metal Express Radio from Honolulu, Hawaii. She's always had a passion for music, but she didn't get into Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music until she discovered Rick Allen's story in the summer of 2019. She was inspired by his determination to play drums for Def Leppard again after losing his left arm in a car accident. From there, her tastes expanded to other bands such as AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Judas Priest, Saxon, Cinderella, and Overkill. Aside from listening to music, she loves watching YouTube and writing on her personal blog.
