Norwegian rock veterans Gluecifer are back and are set to release their first album in over twenty years entitled Same Drug New High. Gluecifer’s singer Biff Malibu spoke with Metal Express Radio about their upcoming album, the reformation of Gluecifer, and more. Check out the chat below!

Metal Express Radio: Gluecifer’s first album in over twenty years entitled Same Drug New High is set to be released on January 16th, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?

Malibu: Eleven rock songs, performed by a rock band in rock solid form. Songs about an Oslo neighborhood, a retreat from the city to a rural, alternative lifestyle, about love, about hate, about two cent-grandeur, about the apocalypse and the definite description of Captain Poon’s life in the mid-nineties.

MER: How was the writing and recording process, having not written and recorded together in a long
time?

Malibu: Pretty straight forward. We had some riffs and ideas, forged them into songs, went to the studio and recorded. Wrote some more songs, recorded them etc. No songwriting sessions in “inspiring surroundings” in the Bahamas, no string arrangements, no sheet music and maybe a couple of beers and a bottle of Turkish Pepper-shots.

MER: How would you compare this to Gluecifer’s previous five albums?

Malibu: Dare I say that we have moved from the Amateur-shelf and over to the Mature-section? At least this record is less “produced” compared to some of our previous ones. I think our songwriting is a tad better too.

MER: You’ve released two songs from the album so far, what is the reason for these to be the first
songs for everyone to hear?

Malibu: “The Idiot” has that classic Gluecifer sound, and we thought that would be the right “HELLO!” after all these years. “Armadas” was a natural pick for the second single, just because we’re happy with it.

MER: What are your plans after the album is released?

Malibu: Play some new and old songs in a killer rock’n’roll set for people here and there.

MER: Since Gluecifer’s reformation, you’ve played a number of open air festivals, how was that experience getting yourself out there to such a big crowd?

Malibu: It’s fun to do. Took us a while to get the hang of it, but we’re pretty good at it now. However, the best shows are always indoors, in my opinion.

MER: Is there anyone you hope to tour with and why?

Malibu: We have toured with Motörhead. It’s hard to top that. We always loved touring with The Hellacopters, maybe we get do to that again. Great band, and even greater people.

MER: Is there anywhere that’s been your favorite place to play live and why?

Malibu: Always loved Berlin and Madrid and Bilbao/The Basque country. And the arctic rock city Tromsø in Norway.

MER: Is there anywhere you hope to play live that you haven’t and why?

Malibu: Australia! So many good bands, so much great rock. Would be great to play in the US again too.

MER: What was it that made Gluecifer want to reform, and put out music again?

Malibu: We missed each other I guess. And when we got together we thought the band sounded good, so then it would be a shame not to write some songs. Or should I say “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR”?

MER: Out of Gluecifer’s six albums, what is one you would suggest to a new fan and why?

Malibu: Start with the new one, and dig your self backwards until your reach the bottom.
