Austrian Black Metal outfit Ellende are set to release their sixth studio album entitled Zerfall on January 2nd. Ellende’s mastermind L.G. spoke with Metal Express Radio about the upcoming album, Ellende’s upcoming tour with Karg, his favorite releases of 2025, and more. Check out the chat below!

Metal Express Radio: Ellende are set to release their sixth album entitled Zerfall on January 2nd, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?

L.G.: It is about shattering into pieces and rebuilding oneself. Beneath that lies a tragic event I am forced to live with.

MER: How was the writing and recording process, being your sixth album?

L.G.: Same as always, staying consistent with making music. A small fraction of what I create eventually becomes an album.

MER: You’ve already sold out on vinyl pre-orders for Zerfall, how has the positive response been for Ellende?

L.G.: It is not uncommon for Ellende, but I feel this album has reached a new level in the band’s history. One thing that makes Ellende unique is that everything from songwriting to artwork is done by the artist.

MER: You’ll soon be doing a headlining tour taking out Karg, and Firtan, what are your expectations on the upcoming tour?

L.G.: They are not just great bands but also close friends of ours. I am sure this tour will be a blast for me.

MER: What do you see as plans for you and Ellende after the tour?

L.G.: Everything is pretty much planned through until summer 2027. After that, I suppose there will be a pause.

MER: Is there anyone you hope to tour with that you haven’t and why?

L.G.: Most of the bands I admired back then are now either playing before us or no longer exist. I have realized it is more important who the people are backstage than just their music, so my view on this has shifted. Besides that, Queen.

MER: Is there anywhere you hope to play live that you haven’t yet and why?

L.G.: We were close to touring the US several times, but the universe has not been in our favor, yet it seems.

MER: Is there anywhere that’s been your favorite to play live and why?

L.G.: It depends more on the audience than on the location itself. But playing on the old A38 ship on the Danube River in Budapest was quite a special location.

MER: What have been your favorite releases of 2025?

L.G.: Der Weg einer Freiheit, Nekrodeus and The Great Old Ones. New Blut aus Nord single sounds promising too.

MER: Out of Ellende’s six albums, what is one you would recommend to a new fan and why?

L.G.: Start to paint, knit, or do whatever gets you into the zone and listen to all of them in chronological order.
