Five years is a long time to wait in the shadows — but Lisbon’s Glasya makes the return worth every second. The Portuguese “Soundtrack Metal” storytellers are back with their third album, Fear, and it’s tailor-made for a late-October listen with the lights low and the candles flickering.

If their last record Attarghan was a sweeping fantasy saga, Fear brings the nightmare closer to home. This time, Glasya dives straight into the psyche — exploring what happens when your own fears start whispering back. Led by the powerhouse vocals of Eduarda Soeiro, the band takes listeners on a dark, emotional ride through the corridors of the mind, where the real monsters aren’t hiding under the bed — they’re inside you.

Production

From the first ominous notes, Fear sounds massive. The production is crystal clear, layered, and dynamic — exactly what you want from a top-tier symphonic metal record. Eduarda Soeiro’s vocals soar over it all — commanding, emotional, and perfectly balanced with the growling male vocals that bring contrast and drama. Drummer Bruno Ramos anchors the album with tight, powerful precision, while the twin guitars of Hugo Esteves and Bruno Prates drive the melodies forward with sharp riffs and memorable solos. The inclusion of special guests like Fernando Ribeiro (Moonspell) further expands the album’s depth and dark mystique. The keyboards steal the show at times — dripping with ghostly atmosphere, like an old haunted organ echoing through an empty church.

There’s a strong cinematic thread running through the whole thing — little spoken passages, ambient moments, and chilling transitions that make it play like a concept horror film, giving it an unmistakable Halloween-season vibe throughout — creepy yet captivating, gothic but empowering — making it the perfect late-October release. Think King Diamond meets Within Temptation, with a few scares along the way.

Final Notes

Fear is more than just a metal album — it’s a haunted experience. Glasya nails the balance between melody and menace, wrapping big hooks inside a genuinely creepy atmosphere. It’s dramatic, heavy, and weirdly comforting, like sitting by a fire and telling ghost stories with thunder outside.

With top-tier musicianship, flawless production, and a story that resonates beyond fantasy, Fear stands as one of the genre’s highlights of the year. Every element — from the haunting keys to the blistering solos — works in harmony to build a darkly beautiful world that listeners won’t want to leave.
