LINUS FRITZON (AMBUSH): “We’ve Really Turned It Up To 11”

A black and white photo shows five men, the band Ambush, posing outdoors. They are leaning on a dark, textured surface, possibly a planter or a ledge. They all have long hair and are dressed in a classic heavy metal style, including denim and leather jackets. The man in the center is wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket. Another man on the right has a prominent mustache and also wears a leather jacket. The man on the far right has a denim jacket. A few of the men are holding or drinking from beer bottles. The background shows a brick building and a street with trees.

Swedish metal band Ambush are set to release their fourth album entitled Evil In All Dimensions on September 5th. Ambush’s founding member/drummer Linus Fritzson spoke with Metal Express Radio about their upcoming album, signing with Napalm, their upcoming tour with Grave Digger, and more. Check out the chat below!

Metal Express Radio: Your band, Ambush are set to release their fourth album entitled Evil In All Dimensions on September 5th, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?

Fritzson: Well, this is the first album we record with our new lineup, and I really think you can tell that Oskar and Karl are contributing to this album with their individual styles of musicianship. It’s still the same old Ambush, but we’ve really “turned it up to 11.”

MER: How was the writing and recording process having this being your fourth album?

Fritzson: All of us have contributed on this album, which also is a big reason to it being a bit more multifaceted than our previous albums. The order in which a song is produced often starts with one of us sharing an idea of a somewhat full version. Everyone then shares their input and then, after a while of back and forth, the Swedish steel has been forged.

MER: You’ve released three songs from the new album, do you feel they represent the album well?

Fritzson: I would say so, yes. Some songs are faster, some songs are slower, but all songs are Heavy Metal.

MER: How did it come about signing with Napalm?

Fritzson: It started back in 2022 when we were out on tour with Enforcer and Evil Invaders. We were labelless at the time and met up with the Napalm-fellas after a show, I think it was Berlin(?). We must have played an OK show cause we’re able to stay in touch, and here we are.

MER: Who are some of your favorite artists on Napalm?

Fritzson: We’ve played a lot of shows together with the guys in Enforcer & Evil Invaders. Great music and even greater guys, so there’s two. We’d also like to mention our countrymen Hällas, they’re terrific!

MER: You will soon be touring Europe and South America, what are your expectations on the upcoming gigs?

Fritzson: As always the expectations are high, a Heavy Metal audience never lets you down. It’s gonna be really cool to team up with such cool bands as Angel Witch and Grave Digger!

MER: What do you see as far as plans for you and the rest of Ambush to support the album?

Fritzson:
Just to get out there and play the songs live, and really share it with all Metal maniacs, whose support we’d never make it without. Music, in my opinion, is supposed to be experienced live.

MER: Who do you hope to tour with and why?

Fritzson: Well, probably Judas Priest, Accept and Dirkschneider. They’re the ones who created the sound that we strive to prolong.

MER: Is there anywhere you hope to play live that you haven’t and why?

Fritzson: Too many to mention. I mean, we’ve played a couple of hundred shows, but there are around 10.000 cities in the world (according to Google). This means we’ve still got a lot of cities to visit. But, if Greece or Canada calls for some Swedish steel we’d be delighted to heed that call!

MER: Out of Ambush’s four albums, what is one you would suggest to a new fan and why?

Frisson: I’d say Evil In All Dimensions. It’s a perfect representation of both all individual members of the band but also where we are now, musically.
