FAIRYLAND – The Story Remains

The album cover for Fairyland's The Story Remains depicts a serene, ethereal face with closed eyes, seemingly made of light and clouds, floating in a night sky. Below, a fantastical city with spires and turrets rises from a lush green island surrounded by a vast blue ocean. Two birds fly in the middle ground, and the band name 'FAIRYLAND' is at the top, with 'THE STORY REMAINS' at the bottom.

Fairyland hails from France and The Story Remains is their fifth release. They play a spirited form of Epic Symphonic Metal with well-rounded soundscapes that include majestic keyboard arrangements, wind instruments, and other magnificent sonic devices. There’s plenty of sound here to soak in to be sure.

The story behind Fairyland took a tragic turn in 2022 with the passing of founding member and lead vocalist Philippe Giordana, leaving the band and its future in a bit of a quandary. Eventually Archie Caine was brought in to man the microphone, and the initial work started by Giordana on The Story Remains was completed.

As mentioned above, Fairyland produces a very robust and well-rounded soundscape that provides for an uplifting listening experience from beginning to end. The instrumentation and arrangements are excellent and take you to a place where battle, mystery, and magic are all romanticized. Virtually all tracks have extended musical passages and lock you into the power of the forces of nature and endless imagination that can fulfill a wonderful dream.

Epic Metal and Symphonic Metal fans alike will undoubtedly enjoy The Story Remains. It’s a well written, performed, and produced piece of sonic art, and the band is to be commended for getting the band back on track and focused after its future was in a conundrum. They say “fairies wear boots” … but Fairyland shows they can rock with the best of them (and you’ve gotta believe it)!

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
