Back in 2015, Cherry St. vocalist Chris Van Dahl (Steven Tyler tribute singer) and guitarist Todd (Taz) Anthony decided that they should get back together with the goal of creating a Rock album for the ages. Bringing in bassist Adam Kury (Pack Of Wolves, Legs Diamond, Candlebox) and drummer Troy Patrick Farrell (ex-White Lion, ex-Gilby Clark, ex-Enuff Z’ Nuff), they came together as Angels in Vein. Eight years later, we see the release of the appropriately named album Long Time Coming on Perris Records. Is it a Rock album for the ages, as they set out to create? Not for this reviewer.

About the Album

Angels in Vein – Long Time Coming is an album of traditional Hard Rock 1980s style, when bands like L.A. Guns and Guns N’ Roses were first breaking out. Eight years in the works, and the end result is nine originals, and two covers that leave the listener mostly uninspired. The cover of “Bang A Gong,” the classic T-Rex hit brings nothing new to the table, unlike the Power Station version that had great success. The hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” that was made massively famous by the movie The Breakfast Club seems to also fall short of the original, and offer nothing new to make it worth a listen over the original recording.

Final Notes

While some of the songs are pretty decent, the overall feel of the album seems to be very much cliché. The musicianship and performances are all good, as is the production and mastering. The problem is it all feels tired, leaving the audience dying to here something remotely fresh. All of that said, it still lands on the plus side of a 5, thanks to the quality of a few cool songs. Fans of L.A. Guns, Beautiful Creatures & Cherry St. will all find something to like here, while hard core Heavy Metal fans may want to give it a pass.

They released recordings by several local bands, and in the spirit of the old Metal Massacre compilations, he created a 2-album series called The Defenders of Metal. The albums featured classic styled Metal bands from all around the world, with bands from Australia to England, and from Argentina to Russia.
