The Voice Within is the debut solo album from Italian guitarist Luca Sellitto, who is mostly known in the European Melodic Metal scene for being the founder and leader of the power/progressive metal band Stamina. With Stamina, Luca has released four full-length studio albums up until now, plus a live album (CD+DVD), recorded in Poland. He has also played numerous gigs in Europe with the band, including countries such as Italy, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Germany, and Poland.

The Voice Within is a Neoclassical Power Metal album, composed with the intent to tribute to, and bring new life to the genre and its titans, Yngwie Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore, Tony McAlpine, and Symphony X, to name a few. The record itself, is on the short side, with 8 tracks coming in at just about 34 minutes. While Sellitto is clearly a very talented guitarist, and the other performances are equally talented, the record simply isn’t that interesting. It treads the well-worn path on Neoclassical Metal, with over the top guitar shredding that quickly becomes repetitive, including not one, but three instrumental tunes.

One bright spot is “What If?”, which gives a blessed reprieve from Harmonic Minor sweep picked arpeggios and delves into some Melodic Rock territory. Overall, fans of Malmsteen, Neoclassical, and guitar shredding rock may want to give a listen.

Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
