Midnight Ghost is the 12th album from German Power Metal band Brainstorm. Brainstorm was form in 1989 by guitarists Torsten Ihlenfeld and Milan Loncaric, and drummer Dieter Bernert. They were joined by current vocalist Andy B. Franck in 1999 and bassist Antonio Ieva in 2007. This veteran crew hailing from Heidenhiem, Germany, has crafted an excellent musical experience in Midnight Ghost. Excellent production, excellent songwriting, thick vocal harmonies, and exceptional performances are consistent throughout the 10 new tracks put forth. While Brainstorm is coined a Power Metal band, there are definitely modern elements of Melodic Metal, Epic Metal, and even some Progressive characteristics.

The vocals are powerful, spot on, and the sparse but tasteful incorporation of some growls comes off as well done rather than contrived, as it often seems when non-growling vocalists try to throw one in to be trendy. Midnight Ghost is one of those albums where there really isn’t one track that stands out above the others. “Jeanne Boulet” and “The Path” are the slower tracks, and take on a more Epic Metal flavor, but are still a worthwhile listen. The rest of the songs are riff heavy, hook laden Power Metal anthems. Midnight Ghost is a must listen for fans of Power Metal, and Melodic Metal.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
