For The Love Of Metal is the brand new solo release from legendary Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider. It began with a challenge from Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta. Simply put, Jasta believed that Snider’s voice was perfectly suited to produce a modern Metal record. So, rather than put together a “glory days” effort and try to recapture the vibe of some of his 80’s triumphs, Snider agreed. Welcoming a number of submissions from contemporary metal titans, such as Howard Jones (ex-Killswitch Engage), Mark Morton (Lamb of God), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Joel Grind and Nick Bellmore (Toxic Holocaust) and Charlie Bellmore (Kingdom of Sorrow), Snider endeavored to inject his iconic voice and persona into a modern Metal format.

So how did it go? Dee Snider proves once again that he is deservedly called a legend. The record is impressive, and Jasta’s production skills shine thru. The record starts off a little frantic. Most of the first five songs could have been slowed a few beats per minute and found a tasty groove. They feel a little rushy. By the time you get to “Running Mazes”, the groove settles in and it’s a powerful record. The first five are good, and well produced and executed. They just don’t breathe like they could. Snider’s gravelly voice translates well to a more guttural approach. But when he sings, his iconic voice is unmistakable. “Mask” and “Become The Storm” enter a more melodic phase for the record, and these are the shining points of the record. Modern. Melodic. Classic meets modern. Iconic metal front man, author, director, DJ, Broadway performer, philanthropist, and at 63 years old, Dee Snider’s new record demonstrates why he has stood the test of time.
