The Offering is the fourth studio release from Canadian Power Progressive Metal band Borealis. Consisting of Vocalist/Guitarist Matt Marinelli, Guitarist Ken Fobert, Bassist Trevor McBride, Keyboardist Sean Werlick, and Drummer, Mixer, and Producer Sean Dowell, Borealis have created a spectacular musical experience. The production value in spotless, with a very modern, crisp sound rivaling the top Metal albums of the year. Marinelli’s soaring vocals rest comfortably atop the tight performances of the rest of the band, with each musician turning in not only stellar performances, but expertly crafted parts and layers. Dowell’s crisp drum work is driving yet tasteful, with footwork that often reminds of All That Remains.

The guitars have a very modern tone, and the leadwork calls to mind Angel Vivaldi. The keys are lush and full, yet not overpowering, and the bass is exactly as it should be. The Offering is peppered with very Progressive elements, and yet never loses its listenability nor musicality. Conceptually, the lyrics tell the tale of a cult that practices child sacrifice, creates a deity of a sacrificed child, and ultimately is destroyed by it. Each and every one of the 12 tracks on The Offering has something to offer, and never get mired down in being a slave to the story line. A great listen for fans of Metal, Progressive Metal, Power Metal, and Symphonic Metal, The Offering is a contender for the best album of 2018.

About Stevie Shred 166 Articles
Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
