Contingent is the fifth studio release from Danish Progressive Melodic Metal band Pyramaze, and the first to feature new vocalist Terje Haroy. Filled with soaring melodies and and jam packed with Progressive Metal elements, Contingent is a spectacular endeavor.  Symphonic largess that alludes to a cinematic film score, and a production quality on par with any world class record made today, make this record a must listen for fans of Progressive Metal, Melodic Metal, and Symphonic Metal music.

The first single from Contingent is “A World Divided”, and it is extremely well done.  There are many Progressive Metal elements, but never do they sacrifice listenability and musicality for the sake of chops.  In fact, the one thing keeping this record from being a 10 out of 10 is that there could be more.  There is room for the guitar solos to take more of a center stage in the solo breaks and really show some virtuosity, but restraint was shown, almost to a detriment.  Toke Skjonnemand’s lead work is tasty and skillful, and perhaps should have been utilized more fully.  Morten Gade Sørensen, drums, Jonah Weingarten, Keyboards, and Jacob Hansen, Guitars, round out the lineup for Pyramaze, with Hanson being also credited with Bass Guitar duties, and each turn in impressive performances.  Songs like “Star Men”, “Under Restraint”, and “Symphony Of Tears” make Contingent a Progressive Metal tour de force.  Catch Pyramaze live at Prog Power Europe 2017.

Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
